Progressions Staff Development

Fletchy - yes, the name is catchy,  but his videos are very informational!  To learn more about progressions, check out his site and his videos.

What are learning progressions?

The learning progressions are the foundation of our KCCR standards!  The documents describe the progression of a topic across a number of grade levels and are grounded in research on children's cognitive development and logical structure of mathematics.

We were very lucky to have the expertise of Debbie Thompson to help introduce these progressions to USD305 teachers.  Debbie has served on many committees in the beginning phases of the creation of the Common Core Standards and was able to provide some background to the creation of these documents.

Although the learning progressions are the beginnings of Common Core Standards, many people were unaware these documents were in existence.  Reading through the Front Matter provides the provides the background information for the progression documents. Unpacking the progression documents is a lengthy process and will take many years for us to comb through and grasp a firm understanding them.

Although the presentation did not pan out the way I had envisioned, there were some resources that were mentioned and I promised to deliver so they are included below.  A plan will be devised and communicated with principals as to how to move forward on the information contained within the progressions documents.
