Can you look at a carton of eggs and tell how many are left just by looking? Can you determine the number of dots of a page without counting each one? How about the number of students in a classroom without counting them one by one? If you can say yes to these questions, then you are a subitizer! Click on the image for an app for the iPad ($0.99). I see this working well with 1st -3rd graders! You could have it set up as a reinforcement center or try it on the Promethean Board as a whole group response.
